Motels for Anchor Lodge Coromandel.
These clients had a tight window to produce new accommodation after the Coromandel had their devastating Cyclone Bola and the many heavy rain storms and with the prediction of global warming for the last 50 or so years. Council had decided they wanted to raise any new buildings above a flood level of 1.300 metres. We were approached to design two new Motel units along with a duplicate of an existing duplex Motel Unit already built years before on the site. We created some unusual Motel Units that brought the attention of their patrons. They were so impressed they booked a year in advance to come back to the elevated unit for their next year’s holidays.
Providing a split level meant we could easily fit a carport for the unit, something unheard of in Motels before and was greatly received. The split level provided for a mezzanine that young people or even shared adults could bed in for the night and with the Master Bedroom it provided a lavish Motel Unit for the stay. An Ensuite/ Bathroom gave them a spa bath to look onto the bush at the rear of the unit away from prying eyes. Making for a romantic stay away.
