Previous Projects Coromandel NZ

This home was built in Hikuai on the Coromandel Peninsula. The clients had views across to the Pinnacles in the Coromandel Ranges and the brief was to design a home for a growing young family. The timbers used in the interiors were Macrocarpa on the ceilings with floors laid with 150mm wide Matai boards secret nailed with Kauri dowel

These clients came with a very simple brief, to design the house design around their dining table. They had an unusual dining table in the shape of a pie segment with the site overlooking the Hikuai River at Pauanui Beach facing North West. The home design has two bedrooms each with ensuites at ground floor, one being the Master Bedroom at the same level as the entry and guest bedroom. There is a sunken lounge, dining, kitchen, laundry area with another guest bedroom and study on a second floor with an unusual staircase built around a triangle for access.

New Farm House design looks like a Sheep Shearing Shed

COOPER /DRAPER Farm House Maratoto Valley

These clients relocated from the UK and a house and apartment in Italy Umbria deciding on settling in NZ gaining residency and then approached Rex I.Randell to design their Farm House after having developed a Farm Hands Cottage conversion in the top of a new barn.

Karen Draper‘s love of horses had to be reflected in their New home design and for Jim Cooper the New House design had to reflect a farming lifestyle and he wanted the house to appear as a converted sheep shearing shed so as to not look out of place in the middle of 400 acres in the Maratoto Valley.

Inglenook Fireplace Incorporated into New House Design

This Farm House design Features an Inglenook Fireplace built in Hebel Stone and finished with swamp Kauri milled from off the 400 acre property. The house sits at the entrance to the vast valley that extends to the East and with the use of Concrete floors finished as large slabs of stone, stained and polished it provides for excellent heat store in the floor to emit warmth throughout the building in the winter and plenty of ventilation cools this New Farm House in summer.
